The Science Behind CBD.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is a naturally occurring chemical compound found in the Cannabis plant family. Research shows that CBD can have a possible modulating effect on inflammation, anxiety, immunity, and aid in an overall sense of well being.

CBD products can provide all of the benefits of the cannabis plant without having to buy marijuana illegally, own a medical cannabis card, or live in a state where you can buy the plant recreationally.

How does it work?

To understand how CBD, THC, and other compounds work inside the body, first we have to talk about Endocannabinoids, Phytocannabinoids and the Endocannabinoid System:

Endocannabinoids - Compounds that are produced naturally within the body.

Phytocannabinoids - Compounds found in cannabis and other plants that mimic endocannabinoids.

The Endocannabinoid System is a collection of cannabinoids that bind to cannabinoid receptors (CB-1, CB-2) and create biological reaction within the body.

CB-1 Receptors are found primarily within the brain and central nervous system. They regulate thoughts, mood, memories, coordination, and appetite.

CB-2 Receptors are found primarily in the tissues of the immune system. These receptors mostly deal with pain and inflammation.

Effects of CBD on the Body

Unlike THC, a phytocannabinoid known to get you ‚Äúhigh‚ÄĚ, CBD is non-psychoactive and acts upon the body in an entirely different way.

CBD actually allows your endocannabinoid system to utilize more of the cannabinoids that are already present within your body by increasing CB receptor sensitivity. This includes endocannabinoids that are created within the body, phytocannabinoids from cannabis, like THC, and even cannabinoids from a dietary source, like DHEA and EPEA from an Omega-3 fatty acid source.

In short, CBD on its own isn't adding anything extra to your system. It just allows you to fully utilize the compounds that are already present within your body, which then indirectly aid in the anti-inflammatory, anti-anxiety, calming effects, and other properties that most people associate with CBD.

Other Phytocannabinoids

In addition to CBD and THC, there are also 100+ other phytocannabinoids present in cannabis. Some are present in larger quantities than others, but some of the major ones include THCa, CBG, CBN, CBC, THCv, and CBDa, all of which have their own unique properties.
